The Ohio Educational Technology Conference (OETC) opened the call for presenters on July 24 and will close on Sept. 15. OETC24 will focus on the theme of “Syzygy: Aligning the Innovations of Teaching, Learning and Technology.” OETC will be at the Greater Columbus Convention Center on Feb. 13-15, 2023.
Those who are interested in presenting will want to gear their presentations to one of the four audience types when submitting proposals:
Instruction: Sessions are geared toward anyone in an educational role (teachers, instructional technologists, educational coaches, pre-service teachers, curriculum leaders, professors)
Information Technology: Sessions are for attendees in IT fields and learning experiences.
Leadership: Sessions focus on attendees who are leaders in education (superintendents, principals, treasurers, district administrators, business officials, operations managers, facilities managers)
Library/Media Specialists: Sessions are offered for those in the library and media specialist fields.
CSTA Ohio is excited to announce that we will be co-hosting a summit at OETC, focused on everything CS, from instruction to curricula through robotics, AI and the latest devices. We’ll start with a keynote or panel discussion, then move through several innovative sessions over the course of the day. This is a great opportunity to receive and share the latest and greatest in how to teach CS. Not only attendees, but we’re looking for experienced educators to propose sessions! If you / your school cannot afford to attend, we will be offering a limited number of scholarships to assist with conference fees, hotel, transportation and possibly sub(s). You can attend for free by volunteering to assist with the smooth running of the conference or by presenting a session!
While drafting your proposals, take a minute to review the keywords that will be the hot topics at the conference in Feb. Potential presenters can find helpful documents, including the submission guide, on oetc.ohio.gov. Proposals are due by Sept. 15.
This fall CSU will offer its online CS Methods course. This course has been approved by ODE to satisfy Option B (Pedagogy coursework) for the Adolescent to Young Adult/ 7-12; Multi-Age or K-12 Supplemental CS Teaching License. A brief description of the course:
This course is designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills to effectively teach computer science in grades K-12. Through this course, students will gain a deep understanding of how computer science education is delivered in primary and secondary education settings. They will have the opportunity to explore existing computer science curricula and develop resources for their future teaching endeavors while ensuring alignment with state and national computer science standards.
The main objectives of this course are to provide students with both pedagogical and content knowledge essential for becoming proficient computer science teachers. By the end of the course, students will be able to utilize national computer science model curricula and adapt their teaching methods to accommodate diverse learning needs among students. They will learn to implement a variety of effective teaching approaches, including collaborative learning and inquiry-based methods, fostering active engagement in computer science learning.
Additionally, students will develop constructivist and authentic activities that create a supportive and dynamic learning environment to engage their students effectively. They will learn how to design different types of assessments, such as formative and summative evaluations, and develop corresponding rubrics to measure and evaluate student learning accurately.

Learning Blade is a complete STEM toolbox for grades 5-9. They have an Intro to Coding curriculum that was specifically developed for grades 5-9 and is aligned to Ohio and CSTA’s Computer Science standards.
Learning Blade takes a unique approach to STEM education by engaging students in problem-solving activities and introducing them to various STEM careers and technologies through a series of interdisciplinary content-standard aligned lessons and activities. It aligns with the growing emphasis on STEM education and equips students with essential skills for the 21st-century workforce. Computing affects many aspects of the world in both positive and negative ways and local and global levels.
